Penetrating Northern Nigerian Markets

It never cease to many amaze me when i saw many companies and manufacturers trying to introduce their products and services to the northern Nigerian markets through various promotions, adverts and setting of various competitions without understanding the basic psychology of the average northener.that is why many of such campaigns failed to make any meaningful impact.
The people of Northern Nigeria are extremely conservative.they highly value and cherish their culture and traditions to the point of fanacitism.this is not peculiar to the muslims but even the christians of the region.religiously, northerners are frankly more catholic than the pope. for instance, the people of the north still preserve their mode of dressing even while travelling, you will see a Hausa man in a london street on a cold winter morning still donning his traditional kaptan and cap.so when i see bank executives in suits looking for customers in the scorching sun of northern villages,i pity them because i know the futility of their efforts.if you want to appeal to an average northener, dress as he dresses and liase with his traditional and religious leaders.
